THE RESULTS
Gynecomastia is a condition that makes breast tissue swell in both boys and men. This is usually caused by an imbalance of sex hormones.
In most cases, gynecomastia affects both breasts evenly. However, it can create an imbalance in other cases, with one side being larger than the other. For the most part, gynecomastia is a benign hormonal imbalance that sometimes clears up on its own. If you’re a man experiencing enlarged male breasts or gynecomastia, then you should seek medical treatment if you develop swelling, discharge, pain or tenderness in the breast area.
A major advantage of gynecomastia surgery with Vaser Liposuction is that it can successfully remove all glandular tissue. In many cases, the gland and excess fat may not return, but outcomes can vary, especially in instances of weight gain in other areas.
Male breasts can be a challenging area to perform traditional liposuction techniques. At Cosmos Aesthetics, we use Vaser Liposuction for our gynecomastia procedures, making it easier for fat cells and male breast tissue to be extracted. Our Vaser technology works to separate the fat cells from the fibrous tissue and liquefying the fat for an easier removal process.
To begin your procedure, you will be sedated, and a saline solution mixed with a local anaesthetic will be injected into the chest area. This works to numb the area for your comfort during the procedure. Your doctor will make a small incision in your chest, through which the Vaser ultrasound probe will be inserted to break up the fatty tissue. As it’s broken apart, a cannula is used to suction both fat cells and the entire breast gland out of the chest. Some of the saline anaesthetic mix will remain in the body after treatment to numb any post-procedural pain and be absorbed by the body within a few days.
After your procedure, the removed gland will not come back, and the removed fat will not come back. After a VASER Liposuction procedure, some individuals may find it less likely to accumulate fat in the treated areas, though this can vary. Note: you can still gain weight in the chest and surrounding area after liposuction.
Downtime after gynecomastia liposuction is typically minimal, with most patients returning home on the same day as their procedure. While you may experience some bruising and swelling, you can alleviate any pain with prescribed medication.
You will need to wear a compression garment for three to six weeks after surgery to reduce swelling and improve skin retraction. You will also need to come into the clinic for post-op lymphatic massages, which our onsite physiotherapist or nurse will perform. This is typically two to four treatments over two weeks.

Like women, men also have both fat cells and breast tissue in their chest, which can potentially swell and become breasts. Male breasts can develop as a result of multiple factors, including:
Although men can develop gynecomastia at any stage in life, it is most common in adolescents and middle-aged men.
If you fit the following criteria, you may be a suitable candidate for gynecomastia correction surgery:
The best way to determine whether you are a candidate for a male breast reduction is to meet with our doctors for a consultation at Cosmos Aesthetics.
To determine whether your gynecomastia results from excess fat or breast tissue, we suggest that you see a doctor who can examine you for a proper diagnosis. Typically, breast tissue will have a firmer, more dense consistency than fat. Either way, Vaser liposuction can remove both excess fat and glandular tissue.
Gynecomastia surgery is performed under sedation and local anaesthesia, which means that you should not experience any pain during surgery. Any pain or discomfort experienced during your recovery can be relieved with medications prescribed by your doctor.
The time spent in surgery will depend on the amount of glandular tissue and fat that your doctor needs to remove. As a general rule, you can expect your gyno surgery to take between one and three hours to complete.
Although scarring is an inevitable part of any invasive surgery, it is rare to experience significant scarring after a male breast reduction. This is because your liposuction incisions are only small and can be hidden in the natural contours of the chest.
While gynecomastia surgery results are usually permanent, further weight gain, hormonal imbalances, or use of recreational drugs can trigger new growth of breast tissue. As such, it is important to treat any underlying conditions before considering a male breast reduction.
Many boys experience gynecomastia during adolescence as a result of the hormonal fluctuations that occur during this time. However, we normally suggest that our patients wait until they have turned 18 before considering surgery, as enlarged male breasts often go away on their own after puberty. Despite that, if the gynecomastia is severe and seriously impacts a patient’s quality of life, early treatment may be appropriate.
Although our Vaser liposuction technique is regarded as less risky than traditional liposuction, every procedure still comes with risk. Serious complications are rare, but some of the potential side effects you may experience after gyno surgery include:
