What to expect from Vaser liposuction

At Cosmos Clinic, all liposuction procedures are conducted using Vaser technology. Vaser, short for “Vibration Amplification of Sound Energy at Resonance,” uses ultrasound energy to break apart fat cells before they are removed. This method allows for precise fat removal while minimising disruption to surrounding tissues.

Unlike traditional liposuction techniques, Vaser utilises ultrasonic waves to loosen fat cells from fibrous tissue, making them easier to extract. The heat generated by the ultrasound may also contribute to skin effects, which vary between individuals and should be discussed with your doctor during consultation.

For fat removal in the flank area, the procedure is performed under local anaesthesia and twilight sedation, with general anaesthesia available if preferred. Small incisions are made, typically in the underwear line, to insert the Vaser probe. This probe uses ultrasound to liquefy fat cells, which are then removed from the body using a cannula.

Vaser Liposuction Recovery Timeline

Many patients undergoing liposuction may be able to return home the same day, depending on individual factors. While mild pain and discomfort are common, your doctor will provide medications to help manage these symptoms.

Additionally, it is normal to experience fluid drainage from the treatment sites for 3-5 days following surgery. Recovery times vary, but most patients can expect to return to work after about one week.

To support healing, reduce swelling, and encourage skin adjustment, wearing a compression garment is necessary for five to six weeks post-surgery. Regular follow-up lymphatic massages, typically twice a week for two weeks, are also recommended.

Tips for recovery include:

Wear your prescribed compression garments as directed.
Follow a balanced diet and stay hydrated to support healing.
Pay attention to your body and avoid overexertion.
Keep your surgical sites clean and follow aftercare instructions.
