THE PROCEDURE
Lower face liposuction is a surgical procedure performed under light sedation with local anaesthesia to reduce excess fat in the lower face and neck. Small incisions are made under the neck and behind the ears, allowing for the insertion of the Vaser probe. This probe emits ultrasound energy to heat the area to 38-40 degrees, which helps contract collagen fibres and liquefy fat cells for removal.
The procedure typically takes 30-60 minutes, but this will vary from patient to patient. Most patients experience mild swelling for up to a week, with bruising being uncommon. Pain can usually be managed with prescribed medication. Many patients return to work after one week.
Before deciding on lower-face liposuction, here are some factors to keep in mind:
Realistic Expectations
You will need an initial consultation to assess your eligibility, discuss your goals, and review the potential risks and benefits of the procedure.
A referral from a General Practitioner (GP) is required, as well as adherence to the cooling-off period and consultation requirements.
The cost of lower-face liposuction depends on factors like the areas being treated and individual needs. Prices typically include the procedure, compression garments, and follow-up care. A personalised quote will be provided during your consultation. At Cosmos Clinic, prices start from $5,500.

Surgery Risks
As with any surgical procedure, lower-face liposuction involves some risks and potential complications, including but not limited to:
All risks and potential side effects will be thoroughly discussed during your consultation. Following your doctor’s aftercare instructions and attending scheduled follow-up appointments can help minimise risks.
Once your fat cells have been removed, they will never return. Despite that, your remaining fat cells can still expand, so we recommend maintaining your post-liposuction weight after surgery to ensure your results remain stable. Keep in mind that liposuction does not stop the ageing process.
Yes, facial liposuction follows the same principles as liposuction on other areas of the body. The only real difference is the amount of fat removed. During a facial liposuction procedure, your doctor will only remove a few ounces of fat, whereas body liposuction may remove several litres.
During your consultation, your Cosmos Clinic doctor will give you specific pre-operative instructions. You will be asked to quit smoking and avoid certain medications and supplements, to avoid surgical complications. We also recommend taking steps before surgery to prepare for your recovery. This may include purchasing some comfortable clothing, filling prescriptions, preparing some healthy meals and arranging for someone to pick you up from the hospital after the procedure.
During the procedure, you will be placed under twilight sedation and local anaesthesia, so you should feel little pain or discomfort. Any post-operative discomfort can be relieved with medications prescribed by your doctor.
