Since neck liposuction is a minimally invasive surgical procedure, no overnight stay is required, and you can return home within a few hours after surgery. Mild pain and discomfort are common after neck liposuction, however, your cosmetic doctor will prescribe medications to help relieve this. To minimise swelling and promote healing, you will need to wear a compression garment full time for around three days and then nightly for another week. We also recommend that you sleep with your head elevated for at least one weeks after surgery to help reduce the swelling.

Ultimately, recovery from liposuction to the neck is relatively brief, and most patients can return to work and normal activities after 3-5 days.  To optimise healing, become familiar with the do’s of liposuction recovery:

What is Vaser Liposuction?

Vaser is an advanced method of liposuction that offers a less traumatic approach to fat removal than traditional liposuction techniques. This technique uses ultrasound energy to break apart fat cells and tighten the skin. During the cosmetic procedure, an ultrasound probe is inserted into the fatty tissue layer to heat and liquefy fat cells, which makes them less traumatic to remove from the neck.

What can I expect during my Neck Liposuction procedure?

You will be placed under twilight sedation during your neck liposuction procedure. To further numb the neck and prevent bleeding during plastic surgery, your Cosmos Aesthetics doctor will inject a saline solution mixed with a local anaesthetic into the treatment area. Once you are numb, your doctor inserts the Vaser probe, which is moved back and forth to heat and liquefy the unwanted fat cells. The generated heat will also contract collagen fibres to tighten any excess skin. Once your fat cells are liquified, your doctor will use a cannula to suction the fat out of your neck and give you a more shaped appearance.

How do I prepare for my Neck Liposuction procedure?

When you come in for a consultation, your Cosmos Aesthetics doctor will provide clear pre-operative instructions. To avoid surgical complications, such as bleeding and prolonged healing, you will be asked to avoid specific medications and supplements. We also recommend taking steps before surgery to ensure your recovery and aftercare is as smooth as possible. This could include purchasing some comfortable clothing, and arranging for someone to pick you up from the hospital after surgery.

Is Neck Liposuction painful?

Your neck liposuction procedure will be performed under twilight sedation and local anaesthesia, rather than general anaesthesia, so you should not feel any significant pain or discomfort. Your doctor will make a small incision in an easily disguised location to insert the cannula and suction out the fat.

While post-operative discomfort is to be expected, you can alleviate this with medications prescribed by your doctor.

How long does it take to see results?

Swelling after liposuction to the neck is very common, even if you wear your compression garment correctly.  While you will notice a slimmer neck after around a week, it can take several weeks for swelling to fully subside. The swelling settles fairly swiftly because the neck is above the heart. Over time, your results will gradually improve, with your final result being visible at around six months.

Are results permanent?

Once fat cells are removed, those specific fat cells will not return. Its harder to gain weight in the treated area. However, your remaining fat cells can still expand, which is why we recommend maintaining your post-lipo weight after surgery. You should also keep in mind that liposuction does not prevent further ageing and natural loss of skin laxity, so you will likely experience further drooping skin and neck bands over time.

Will I have drooping Neck skin after a liposuction procedure?

Vaser liposuction uses ultrasound heat to liquefy fat cells, which has the added advantage of stimulating new collagen. As such, drooping skin is rare after neck liposuction, as the procedure actually promotes tighter, firmer skin. We consider vaser liposuction to be a helpful neck rejuvenation procedure, as it both reduces stubborn fat and tightens lax skin.

What are the risks and side effects associated with Neck Liposuction?

Overall, Vaser liposuction is associated with fewer complications than traditional liposuction. However, there are still some potential risks to be aware of, including:

What is the difference between Liposuction to the Neck and Liposuction to the Body?

Neck liposuction has a much faster recovery than body liposuction for two reasons. Firstly, there is less fat that is removed during the procedure and secondly the swelling in the neck subsides faster as the neck sits above the heart. Your doctor will only remove a few ounces of fat during your neck liposuction procedure, while body liposuction usually removes several litres.
