    THE PROCEDURE

    Thigh Liposuction Overview & Costs

At Cosmos Clinic, all thigh liposuction procedures are performed using advanced Vaser technology, which uses ultrasound energy to break down fat cells before they are removed from the body. This modern approach is considered less invasive than traditional liposuction techniques.

How Does Vaser Liposuction Work for the Thighs?

Vaser Liposuction uses ultrasound heat to target and separate fat cells from surrounding tissue, creating a more fluid-like consistency for easier removal. This method allows for a more precise procedure compared to older techniques, which were often more aggressive and associated with longer healing periods. Additionally, the ultrasound energy in Vaser Liposuction may promote some degree of skin retraction, which can help reduce concerns about skin laxity post-procedure.

The procedure is typically performed under twilight sedation and local anaesthesia, although general anaesthesia is available if preferred. Once the area is numbed, a small incision is made—often in discreet locations such as the groin crease, bikini line, or buttock crease. The Vaser probe is then inserted through the incision and moved back and forth to break apart the targeted fat. Once liquefied, the fat is suctioned out using a cannula.

    Costs of Thigh Liposuction

The cost of thigh liposuction varies depending on several factors, including the volume of fat being treated, the specific areas addressed, and individual medical considerations. During your initial appointments, you will receive a detailed and personalised quote. This will include all associated costs, such as anaesthetic fees, compression garments, and follow-up care.

It’s essential to discuss your goals and any questions with your doctor during these consultations to ensure you have a clear understanding of the procedure and its costs.

As a rough guideline, Cosmos Clinic prices for Vaser Liposuction start from $5,500 for the first area.

    POST SURGERY

Recovering from Thigh Liposuction & Potential Risks

Most patients can return home on the same day after thing liposuction surgery. While you may experience mild discomfort, your doctor will prescribe medications to manage pain effectively. It’s also normal to notice fluid seepage from incision sites for about 3–5 days post-surgery. Recovery is typically manageable, and many patients are able to resume work and light activities within a week.

To support healing, minimise swelling, and help the skin adapt, patients must wear a compression garment for six weeks—three weeks full-time and three weeks part-time. Regular follow-up lymphatic massages are also encouraged, usually twice a week for two weeks, to assist with recovery and improve results.

    • Wear compression garments as directed by your doctor.
    • Maintain a balanced diet to support healing.
    • Listen to your body and rest when needed.
    • Take care of your surgical sites to minimise the risk of infection.
    • Attend all post-surgical checkups for ongoing support.

    Potential Risks of Thigh Liposuction

Like any surgical procedure, thigh liposuction carries potential risks and side effects. While many patients recover without complications, it’s important to be aware of the following:

    Common Side Effects:

    • Bruising and Swelling: Temporary and expected, typically resolving within a few weeks.
    • Pain and Discomfort: Mild to moderate, managed with prescribed medications.
    • Fluid Leakage: Drainage from incision sites may occur for a few days post-surgery.

    Potential Complications:

    • Scarring: Small incisions may leave scars, with healing varying by individual skin type.
    • Uneven Results: Asymmetry or irregularities in the treated area may occur, requiring further treatment.
    • Skin Changes: Temporary numbness, tingling, or altered sensation in the treated area.
    • Persistent Swelling or Fluid Accumulation (Seroma): Rare but may require medical attention.
    • Infection: A rare but serious risk; symptoms include redness, warmth, or fever.
    • Blood Clots or Haematoma: Clots under the skin or in deeper veins are rare but can occur.
    • Skin Burns: Rarely, the heat from the Vaser probe may cause burns or blistering.
    • Loose Skin: In cases of poor skin elasticity, skin may not retract fully after fat removal.

    Rare but Serious Risks:

    • Fat Embolism: Dislodged fat cells entering the bloodstream, potentially life-threatening.
    • Organ Damage: Very rare but possible with improper technique or unforeseen complications.
    • Allergic Reactions: To anaesthesia or other medications used during the procedure.

    Minimising Thigh Liposuction Risks

At Cosmos Clinic, patient safety is our priority. During your consultations, the doctor will review your medical history, assess your suitability for surgery, and discuss all risks and potential complications in detail. Following all pre- and post-operative instructions is essential to reduce risks.

Am I a candidate for liposuction to the thighs?

Not everyone is a candidate for surgery. You may be a suitable candidate for thigh liposuction if you fit the following criteria:

    • You have excess fat deposits in the thighs that are resistant to diet and exercise
    • You have realistic expectations of what thigh liposuction can achieve
    • You are in good physical and mental health
    • You are willing to follow healthy exercise and diet habits after the procedure
    • You have good skin elasticity
    • You are a non-smoker, or are prepared to quit in the weeks before and after surgery

Of course, the above is just a guide: to determine whether you are a suitable candidate for thigh liposuction, your best bet is to meet with one of our doctors for a consultation.

How do I prepare for liposuction surgery?

To help you prepare for the procedure, your doctor will provide you with specific pre-operative instructions during your consultation. To prevent surgical complications, patients must quit smoking at least two weeks prior to surgery, and your doctor may also ask that you avoid certain medications and supplements. To make your recovery more comfortable, we recommend purchasing some comfortable clothes, filling any needed prescriptions and preparing some healthy meals before your procedure. You will also need to arrange for someone to pick you up from the hospital and assist with tasks at home for a few days.

    How painful is the procedure?

During your thigh liposuction procedure, you will be placed under twilight sedation and local anaesthesia. As a result, you should not feel any pain during surgery. While discomfort is normal during recovery, your doctor will prescribe medications to alleviate this.

How long does the procedure take?

The length of your thigh liposuction procedure will depend on the amount of fat removed and whether you are treating other areas of the body at the same time. As a general rule, you can expect your procedure to take between one and four hours to complete.

How many procedures will I need?

Our Cosmos Clinic doctors always endeavour to achieve optimal fat reduction results in a single procedure. However, patients who wish to remove large amounts of fat may require a second procedure. Your doctor will advise whether you will benefit from additional procedures during your consultation.

When will I see the results of my thigh liposuction?

While you may notice subtle changes immediately after surgery, your thighs will also be quite swollen. You will need to wait for post-operative swelling to subside and the skin to retract and tighten before your final results appear. The final results are typically visible at around six months after surgery.

    Are thigh liposuction results permanent?

After your liposuction procedure, the fat cells removed from the thighs won’t return. However, the remaining fat cells can grow in size, so it is still possible for you to gain weight.

Will I have noticeable scars after thigh liposuction?

While scarring is an inevitable part of any surgical procedure, significant scarring following liposuction is uncommon. With proper scar management, any noticeable scars should fade over time.
