LARGE VOLUME LIPOSUCTION
There are a number of different types of liposuction techniques available including tumescent liposuction and power-assisted liposuction. At Cosmos Aesthetics, we use Vaser Liposuction for all of our liposuction procedures, including Mega Liposuction.
Vaser Liposuction (Vibration Amplification of Sound Energy at Resonance Liposuction), is used to dissolve fat with sound wave energy. Using IV anaesthesia and a tumescent numbing solution, Vaser Liposuction works by utilising ultrasound technology, for the fat deposits to be broken apart and then suctioned out of the body with a cannula via small incision sites.
Large volume liposuction can remove up to a maximum of five litres of fat in a single procedure. Removing more than this can put your health and safety at risk. If your doctor anticipates that you may potentially require the removal of more than five litres of fat cells, you will need to undergo multiple Mega Lipo procedures.

MEGA LIPOSUCTION AT COSMOS AESTHETICS
Whilst some liposuction for weight loss patients can achieve their desired results in a single procedure, others may require two or three procedures of fat removal. As there is a limit on how much excess fat can be removed in a single Mega Liposuction procedure, your doctor will help you set realistic expectations regarding what is possible for your body using liposuction.
Suitability for large volume liposuction is determined by the doctor. Combining the initial consultations with our doctors, a GP referral, a mandatory cooling off period, and realistic expectations, suitable indicators for a Mega Lipo procedure can also include:
To determine if you are an appropriate candidate for liposuction surgery, the first step is to organise the two initial consultations with our doctors at Cosmos Aesthetics to evaluate your individual needs and circumstances. A referral from your GP prior to undergoing your first consultation is also required.
The cost to undergo liposuction surgery does not have a one-price-fits-all pricing structure. The total cost of a procedure will always vary from patient to patient depending on multiple individual factors, including:
At Cosmos Aesthetics, Mega Liposuction procedures start from a minimum base price of $6,600 for the first area, with any additional areas charged at a smaller rate depending on the size, starting from a minimum $2,500 per area. These prices are intended to be used as a general guide only and are not to be considered an exact quote.
Individual liposuction costs vary greatly and there is no set pricing for cosmetic surgery. To begin the process of deciding if liposuction is right for you, and to receive an exact quote tailored to your specific individual circumstances and needs, please contact us to book your initial consultations with our doctors at your clinic location of choice.

WHAT DOES LIPOSUCTION SURGERY INVOLVE
Mega Liposuction employs the Vaser Liposuction technique, focusing on the removal of larger amounts of fat. This procedure is part of a comprehensive approach to weight management and is not solely a body contouring solution.
Your doctor will make small incisions in each of the treated areas, and an ultrasound probe is used in the fatty tissue layer under the skin, to break up the targeted excess fat cells. Once this excess fat is broken apart, a cannula is used for fat removal to vacuum the cells out of the treated area.
Performed using a local anaesthetic numbing solution in combination with either IV sedation or general anaesthetic depending on the individual patient’s specific circumstances and needs, Vaser Liposuction utilises ultrasound energy waves to generate heat, liquefying and breaking apart fat cells for suction removal.
The length of time a Mega Liposculpture cosmetic procedure using Vaser Liposuction will take, depends on how much excess fat is being removed, as well as the size and density of the fat deposits to be treated. As a general rule, you can expect a large volume liposuction procedure to take between one to four hours to complete, depending on multiple individual factors. An estimated time length for your specific procedure and personal needs will be provided to you by the doctor during your initial consultations.
Following Mega Lipo you can expect bruising, swelling, and pain in the treated areas, which can be managed with pain relief prescribed by your Cosmos Aesthetics doctor. It is essential that all patients adhere to the post-procedure aftercare instructions provided to them, attend all scheduled follow up appointments, as well as self-perform daily lymphatic drainage massage on their treated areas.
You should expect to spend around a week or more at home to rest and recover after surgery, this will depend on multiple individual factors and is not a guarantee. After a week or more, you should manage to return to most normal light activities, with the exception of strenuous exercise. Pending the doctor’s approval and guidance, you should be able to resume your exercise routine after six weeks.
You will need to wear compression garments for six weeks throughout the recovery process. Compression garments support swelling and help the treated areas conform to the new body shape. After six weeks, the results from your surgery procedure will become increasingly more visible, but the final results of Mega Lipo can take up to six months or longer to fully appear.
Since Mega Liposuction involves the removal of large volumes of fat, Postoperative changes in body shape may be initially noticeable, but significant postoperative swelling is common. The final results will become more apparent as the swelling subsides over time. You will also need to allow time for the skin to retract to your new body shape, however excess skin is common following large volume liposuction. Suitable candidates for liposuction surgery understand that they must have patience during the recovery process. You can expect your liposuction results to improve gradually in the three to six months following surgery.

IMPORTANT THINGS TO KNOW ABOUT LIPOSUCTION SURGERY
Vaser Liposuction is a surgical procedure, and all liposuction surgery carries risks, side effects and complications, which must be considered before making a decision to have liposuction. Some of the potential side effects can include but are not limited to:
Many patients considering liposuction for weight loss are concerned that they will be left with excess skin after the procedure. Whilst Vaser Liposuction can enhance skin retraction, if you have reduced skin elasticity you will still experience a degree of skin wrinkling and looseness after Mega Lipo surgery.
If there is significant excess skin or loose skin present on the abdomen, you may require plastic surgery with an abdominoplasty (tummy tuck), if this is relevant to you, you will be referred to a plastic surgeon.
Scarring is an inevitable part of any invasive surgical procedure. The incisions required to insert the Vaser probes are relatively small and with proper scar management such as specialised silicone scar creams, you can expect the small incisions to fade over time.
The actual number of fat cells in a person’s body remains stable after adolescence. Unless you become grossly obese, you do not grow more fat cells after adolescence. The fat cells grow bigger when you put weight on and smaller when you lose weight. When the fat cells are removed with Vaser Liposuction, it is usually more difficult to gain fat in the treated areas. Weight gain post-Vaser Liposuction may result in a more even distribution of fat, but this can vary between individuals. These findings were published in the August 2012 Issue of the Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Journal.
The total cost of a Vaser Liposuction procedure will vary considerably depending on multiple individual factors. A comprehensive quote for your personal areas will be discussed in detail and provided to you during your initial consultations with the doctor.
In Australia, all patients considering cosmetic surgery must have a referral from a GP, two consultations including one consultation in-person with the doctor performing the surgery, and a mandatory minimum seven day cooling off period following the second consultation, before being able to book a liposculpture procedure at Cosmos Aesthetics.
For patients considering a liposuction procedure, we have clinics conveniently located around Australia in: Sydney, Canberra, Adelaide, and the Gold Coast. To discuss if you might be a candidate for Mega Lipo, please contact our friendly team today!
