REMOVE UNWANTED EXCESS FAT FROM THE ABDOMEN
Vaser Liposuction is a surgical procedure to reduce body fat and remove stubborn fat deposits from the stomach and other suitable areas of the body.
At Cosmos Aesthetics, we use Vaser Liposuction technology for all our liposuction surgeries. During an abdominal liposuction procedure, small incisions are made by the doctor, and a specialised ultrasound probe is passed through each small incision into the pockets of fat being targeted for removal.
Vaser Liposuction utilises heat generating ultrasound technology to break apart and liquefy unwanted fat cells in the treated areas. Once the fat deposits have been broken apart in each specific area, the excess fat cells are suctioned out of the body through the same small incision sites using a cannula.
Stomach liposuction is performed using a local anaesthetic numbing solution in each area of the body being treated, along with IV sedation (twilight anaesthesia or general anaesthetic). The type of IV sedation used for abdominal liposuction depends on the individual needs of each patient, and is discussed in detail with the doctor during the consultation appointments.
When compared to more traditional liposuction techniques, the technology of Vaser Liposuction has the potential to offer additional benefits beyond fat removal for body contouring, including:

ABDOMINAL LIPOSUCTION
Stomach liposuction may be an option for certain individuals based on specific criteria. Some factors considered regarding suitability to have a surgical procedure for excess fat removal include, but are not limited to:
The above examples are just a guide and do not guarantee suitability. Not all patients wanting to have stomach liposuction are candidates for a liposuction procedure. Some patients may require plastic surgery for an abdominoplasty (tummy tuck) performed by a plastic surgeon. Suitability for abdominal liposuction is determined by the doctor during your consultations.
Before you are able to book for cosmetic surgery, including having liposculpture, there are prerequisites you need to meet, as required by Australian medical guidelines:
Liposuction is not a one-price-fits-all surgical procedure and the total costs incurred will always vary from patient to patient. When considering abdominal liposuction, it is important to understand the stomach is classified as two areas: the lower abdomen is one area and the upper abdomen is one area. The price to have liposuction surgery is calculated incorporating individual factors including:
At Cosmos Aesthetics, liposuction procedures start from a minimum base price of $5,500 for the first area, with any additional areas costing a smaller fee depending on the size, starting from a minimum $2,000 per area. These example prices provided are to be used as a general guide only and are not intended to be considered an exact quote.
During the initial consultations with the doctor, patients are provided with a comprehensive cost breakdown tailored to their individual procedure needs. This detailed and exact personalised quote is calculated incorporating all relevant costs for liposuction to the specified areas, anaesthetic fees, compression garments, and any applicable surgical fees.

WHAT DOES ABDOMINAL LIPOSUCTION SURGERY INVOLVE
Vaser Liposuction is a cosmetic procedure that usually takes between one to four hours to complete. The time spent in surgery varies depending on the amount of fat to be removed, the number of areas being treated, and the individual surgical requirements of each patient.
Liposuction to the stomach is performed as day surgery, meaning patients can return home on the same day as their procedure. Bruising, swelling, and pain, are all to be expected, and the levels of discomfort experienced will vary depending on each individual. To help you manage any discomfort following surgery, you will be prescribed pain relief medication by your doctor, and provided with detailed post-procedure information.
Depending on a range of personal factors including individual past healing, sensitivity to discomfort, and if other parts of the body were treated as well as your stomach, most patients need an average of 5-7 days recovery time to rest and take it easy. In general, patients are able to resume most light activities around one week post-procedure, whilst strenuous activities like intensive regular exercise should be avoided for around six weeks. This is just a guide and is not a guarantee, the recovery time you may experience for your individual circumstances will be discussed with the doctor during the consultations.
To aid with healing, minimise swelling and support skin retraction, you must wear compression garments for a minimum of six weeks following surgery: three weeks full-time and three weeks part-time. Following the aftercare instructions provided to you, as well as self-massaging the treated areas every day throughout your recovery, are also required. During the recovery time period, regular in-clinic follow up appointments to monitor and support you will also be organised.
Recovery times needed after liposuction surgery vary, and it is important to always:
After around six weeks, the results from your surgery will become increasingly more noticeable. All patients must understand that the final results of liposuction surgery can take up to six months or longer to fully appear.
IMPORTANT THINGS TO KNOW ABOUT ABDOMINAL LIPOSUCTION
All invasive surgeries have risks and side effects, including liposculpture. Some of the potential risks, side effects, and complications that can occur with abdominal liposuction include:
Scarring is an inevitable part of any surgical procedure including procedures done via keyhole. The small incisions used for Vaser Lipo can still result in some form of scarring. Once healed, the appearance of any scars will depend on individual factors including skin type, colouring, and past scarring history.
After the reduction of fat cells in the stomach through liposuction, these specific cells do not regenerate. However, maintaining the results requires a healthy lifestyle, as it is still possible to gain weight through the expansion of remaining fat cells. To support the results achieved with surgery, it is recommended to avoid weight gain and maintain a healthy lifestyle.
Both of these cosmetic surgery procedures use Vaser Lipo for body contouring and fat removal. For suitable candidates with pre-existing muscle definition or a strong core, in addition to removing the stubborn fat deposits from your stomach, the doctor can treat the superficial fatty layer that sits over the abdominal muscles to enhance their visibility. Vaser High Definition Liposuction is only suitable for certain patients with thick skin, good quality skin tone, and who can feel their abdominal muscles underneath the skin when contracting.
Yes, if suitable, you can treat other parts of the body along with your stomach during a liposuction procedure. The areas of the body being considered for treatment will be reviewed for suitability by the doctor during your consultations.
Vaser Lipo is not a procedure used to treat obesity, and it is also not a surgery for weight loss. However, our Mega Liposuction procedure can help overweight patients who are suitable to have surgery, remove a large amount of fat.
If having a surgical procedure isn’t for you, we offer CoolSculpting treatments, a non-surgical option for suitable patients to reduce the amount of fat localised in specific areas of the body without surgery.
Both your liposuction procedure and your consultations to have stomach liposuction can be done at any of our clinics located across Australia in: Sydney, Canberra, Adelaide, and the Gold Coast. To discuss your treatment options for liposuction surgery at Cosmos Aesthetics, please contact us today!
