It is essential that you understand how liposuction works if you are considering having this surgical procedure. Vaser Liposuction has been shown to increase skin tightening through the process of stimulating neocollagenesis and increasing the production of collagen, by up to 54% more than traditional methods of liposuction.
Additionally, Vaser Liposuction can also cause less tissue and blood vessel trauma, resulting in the potential of less bleeding for patients during liposuction surgery in Sydney.
Vaser Liposuction, often referred to as Vaser Lipo, involves using IV twilight sedation and a tumescent solution containing local anaesthetic. Depending on individual medical history and specific requirements, this may be supplemented with IV general anaesthesia to achieve deeper levels of sedation.
Before having liposuction surgery, the changes you wish to see in your body are discussed at length with the doctors. Having realistic expectations about the results that can be achieved with liposuction is an essential component of suitability. At Cosmos Aesthetics, all our patients are required to wait a mandatory minimum seven day cooling off period after their second liposuction consultation, before they can decide if they want to proceed and book for cosmetic surgery.
During your initial consultations all the areas you’re considering treating with Vaser Liposuction will be examined by our doctors. Vaser Lipo is a surgical cosmetic procedure used to remove unwanted fat from various areas of the body, including the abdomen, love handles/flanks, back, chest, arms, legs, inner and outer thighs, calves, knees, ankles, lower face, chin, and neck.
It is important to know that not everyone is a good candidate for Vaser Lipo, and to be aware only certain areas of the body are suitable for treatment with liposuction. Pending an examination of your stomach combined with your medical history, previous childbirth, significant weight gain/weight loss, your result expectations, and if you have excess skin or loose skin; you may be referred to a plastic surgeon for an abdominoplasty (tummy tuck).

VASER LIPO AT COSMOS AESTHETICS SYDNEY
Suitability of both the patient and their desired target areas is determined by the doctor during the initial consultations at Cosmos Aesthetics Sydney. The following indicators are just a guide and do not guarantee a patient will be a good candidate liposuction:
To determine if you are a good candidate for Vaser Liposuction in Sydney, two initial consultations with our doctors will be required. A referral from your GP is also needed before having consultations for cosmetic surgery.
In a liposuction consultation the doctor will review your medical history and motivation for liposuction surgery, inform you of the potential risks, complications, side effects, and downtime from surgery. The doctor will examine the areas of your body you are considering treating, and discuss alternatives to having cosmetic surgery, including not having a liposuction procedure at all. Your individual liposuction costs with a detailed quote are also provided to you during this appointment.
The cost of liposculpture in Australia can vary greatly due to multiple factors, such as the number of treatment areas, the size of each area, and the fat density in each targeted area. The cost of a procedure will always start from a minimum base price of $5,500 for the first area, with each additional area starting from a minimum of $2,000. An example of one area is both love handles, both outer thighs, and both inner thighs. The tummy is always classified as two separate areas – the lower abdomen and the upper abdomen. An exact quote for your individual circumstances and areas you wish to treat will be provided to you during your initial consultations. WHAT DOES LIPOSUCTION SURGERY INVOLVE
It is very important to be fully prepared before undergoing any invasive procedure including cosmetic surgery. Discussing how liposuction works and going over the comprehensive pre and post-operative instructions with the doctor will all be covered in detail during your liposuction consultations. Copies of this paperwork will also be provided to you.
If you smoke, you will be instructed to quit as soon as possible, with a minimum of four weeks of no smoking required prior to surgery, and throughout the entire recovery period. If you take regular medications, these will be reviewed by the doctor during your initial consultations.
You can also prepare for your surgical procedure by organising old towels and bed sheets to sit and sleep on, along with loose, soft, dark, comfortable clothing to wear over your compression garments. We recommend purchasing puppy pads to absorb the leakage from the small incision sites. You are also required to have a responsible adult collect you after your liposuction procedure to stay with you overnight, and all of the following day.
Having a Vaser Liposuction surgery utilises ultrasound technology to generate heat and break apart stubborn fat deposits. This ultrasound technology liquefies the unwanted fat cells in the targeted areas of the body, making extraction easier.
Small incisions are made in each of the areas being treated, and an ultrasound probe is passed under the skin to create heat and melt the unwanted fat cells. The heat that is produced from ultrasound technology can also reduce the possibility of developing excess loose skin from Vaser Lipo, by increasing skin tightening thus enhancing skin retraction. A cannula is then used to permanently suction out the melted excess fat via the small incision sites.
Invasive procedures such as Vaser Liposculpture are performed using a local anaesthesia numbing solution in each of the treatment areas, combined with IV sedation. For most patients IV twilight anaesthesia is administered, but IV general anaesthetic is also available and may be required depending on the personal needs and individual circumstances of each individual patient.
During your initial consultations, the doctor will discuss your liposuction costs including the best sedation option for you, and if local anaesthesia with IV sedation, or local anaesthetic with general anaesthesia will be used. Following liposuction surgery, you will be able to manage your pain with the medications prescribed to you by your Cosmos Aesthetics doctor.
To help with recovery, healing, skin retraction, and to minimise swelling, compression garments must be worn as directed for an average of six weeks. Wearing specialised compression garments for three weeks full-time, followed by three weeks part-time, is essential. Pain relief is prescribed to help manage discomfort, which is normal following a cosmetic procedure.
Fluid leakage from the incision sites is common for up to a week or more following liposuction surgery. Swelling is also extremely common and will fluctuate throughout the healing process. All patients are required to self-massage their treatment areas daily, along with attending follow-ups at our Sydney clinic for lymphatic drainage massages and to monitor your recovery.
THINGS TO KNOW ABOUT VASER LIPO
All liposuction surgery including traditional liposuction and Vaser Liposuction are surgical procedures, and all invasive surgeries have risks, complications, and side effects which must always be considered. For Vaser Lipo these can include, but are not limited to:
The results from having a Vaser Liposuction procedure start to become noticeable around six weeks after surgery. The final results may not be apparent for up to six months following liposuction surgery. To optimise healing, strict adherence to all the instructions provided is required; wearing the post-liposuction compression garments, daily massages to the treatment areas, and attending all follow ups as directed. It is important to also eat a healthy diet and to always remember that Vaser Liposuction is not weight loss surgery.
Depending on the number of areas treated and the type of exertion level required, most patients can return to light daily activities after around one week. Strenuous exercise and heavy lifting should be avoided for approximately six weeks. This is just a guide and is not a guarantee, downtime information for your individual case will be provided to you by your doctor.
Two initial consultations and a referral from your GP are required before you can undergo liposculpture surgery. With a wonderful team of experienced doctors, registered nurses, and specialised support staff, who will be with you every step of the way, our clinics in Sydney NSW are located in Double Bay, Manly, and Cronulla.
