THE RESULTS
Fractional Laser Resurfacing treats a small “fraction” of the skin while leaving intact undamaged skin around each treated area. This acts as a barrier and reservoir for rapid healing. “Fractional” Laser Resurfacing is a technology which delivers results similar to that of deep chemical peels or ablative laser resurfacing. This form of scar treatment aims to minimize discomfort and reduce the healing period compared to certain other scar treatments, though individual experiences may vary. These include surgical treatments and surgical methods of removal such as Scar Revision Surgery. All traditional resurfacing methods treat the entire skin surface, to obtain a significant, “permanent” result. The entire top (epidermal) layer of skin is damaged or removed, creating a visible wound and a loss of the skins protective function.
*Results will vary from patient to patient.

THE PROCEDURE
Fractional Laser Resurfacing targets specific sections of the skin while leaving surrounding areas intact. This approach helps promote faster healing compared to treatments like deep chemical peels or traditional laser resurfacing. The technology is designed to treat scars such as keloid scars, hypertrophic scars, and acne scars. Individual experiences and results may vary, and a consultation is recommended to determine the best treatment approach.
The laser creates microscopic channels in the skin, targeting the deeper layers where collagen is formed. This stimulates the body’s natural healing process, leading to new collagen production over the next 3–6 months. Most of the skin remains unaffected, which allows for quicker recovery.
For the best results, Fractional Laser Resurfacing can be combined with:

For personalised advice, a consultation is highly recommended. Your initial scar treatment consultation and subsequent procedure can be undertaken at one of our cosmetic clinics located in Sydney, Canberra, Adelaide, or the Gold Coast.
Complications of Fractional Laser Resurfacing are rare when performed by an experienced medical professional. Mild blistering, especially on the chin and temples may occur at higher powers and densities, which will typically heal normally. Scarring from the procedure is rare. Hyper-pigmentation may occur in darker skinned patients, or patients prone to discolouration. Such patients can be pre-treated with bleaching agents to minimise any tendency towards discolouration. Patients with a history of lip blistering are treated with antiviral medications just before, and for a week after treatment. Fractional lasers very rarely result in an outbreak of acne, the cause of which is unknown.
